Backport of all the commits from: root-project#22032 dcc3ef1 fix root target name 7bf18ce Update CMakeLists.txt 8434375 fix typo aaea87d use variable instead of rootsys e074140 rm old script 01f0c61 rm cache vars c040353 [roottest] switch to target executables ecbe452 fix and more simplifications a681c71 [roottest] lib/incdir also without ROOTSYS 0bd53a6 [roottest] do not use ROOTSYS for BINDIR I accidentally didn't squash the commits for the master branch.
as it was before, when using the GIT clone repository directly from Github (cherry picked from commit dabfedb)
