phpMyAdmin is a free software tool written in PHP, designed for administering MySQL and MariaDB over the web.
Started in 1998 by Tobias Ratschiller, phpMyAdmin grew into one of the most popular PHP applications and MySQL administration tools. The phpMyAdmin project has maintained it since 2001, and development has been entirely on GitHub since 2015. Learn more about our history and the awards the project has received.
- Manage everything from the browser — databases, tables, views, columns, relations, indexes, users and privileges.
- Run SQL directly — execute, edit and bookmark statements, including batch queries, stored procedures and triggers.
- Import from CSV, SQL, XML, OpenDocument, ESRI Shapefiles and MediaWiki; export to those plus JSON, PDF, Word, Excel, LaTeX, YAML and more.
- Understand your data — schema visualization, global database search and custom data transformations.
- Administer multiple servers from a single interface, with configuration suggestions for server maintenance.
- Available in 90+ languages, with LTR and RTL support.
Focused PHP packages maintained by the phpMyAdmin team — they power phpMyAdmin itself, and all of them are installable with Composer.
- sql-parser — parses MySQL and MariaDB SQL into an object-based AST, lets you modify the parsed statement and rebuild the SQL from it, and ships a query formatter, linter, tokenizer and syntax highlighter. phpMyAdmin uses it to parse, validate, format and highlight SQL.
- motranslator — reads Gettext MO files into an in-memory cache
for fast lookups and emulates the Gettext API (domains, contexts, plural forms) without
eval(). It is the translation engine behind phpMyAdmin's 90+ languages. - shapefile — reads, writes and edits ESRI ShapeFiles (2D and 3D,
except MultiPatch) along with their DBF attribute tables. DBF access needs the
dbaseextension; no GIS toolchain is required. - twig-i18n-extension — adds a Gettext-backed
{% trans %}tag to Twig, with contexts, plural forms, domains and translator notes. SetTransNode::$enableMoTranslatorand compiled templates call motranslator's_gettext()/_pgettext()/_npgettext()functions and their_d*domain variants instead of PHP's native Gettext; phpMyAdmin 5.2 uses it to translate its Twig templates. - coding-standard — the PHP_CodeSniffer ruleset phpMyAdmin enforces, built on the Doctrine Coding Standard. Require it as a dev dependency to get the same rules in your own project.
Also maintained here: the official Docker image, third-party themes, the website generator behind phpmyadmin.net, and the error reporting server that collects error reports from phpMyAdmin installations.
Contributions of every kind are welcome — you don't need to be a developer to help.
- Code & bug reports — fork phpmyadmin and open a pull request, or start with a good first issue.
- Translations — help translate phpMyAdmin on Weblate.
- Testing — try the pre-releases (alpha, beta, RC) or the daily snapshots and report what breaks. A snapshot is built automatically from the current branches and is nearly identical to an official release: apart from the version suffix it is the same code, it adds no tracking or telemetry, and it is simply unsigned.
- Documentation — improve the documentation source or contribute to the wiki.
