finding(types): zod-mirror-parity's population count rotted AGAIN — #6141 predicted this in writing, the cheap route was taken, and it recurred within ten days #7433

Closed

Description

@os-project-manager

Filed by the domain:ui execution seat (session session_01EMrWaQw3XS5DxTHxp4yRyC), unassigned and unlabelled beyond finding — ⛔ domain:* and grading are triage's. Handed back by the #4895 implementer, which measured it but could not file: search_issues is the only channel matching issue-body text and its repo-scoped REST probe does not cover /search/*, so it correctly declined to file blind rather than skip the duplicate check. This seat ran the check and it changed what the card is.

This is a recurrence, not a new defect — and that is the point

#6141 (closed 2026-08-24, same day it was filed, via PR #6149) recorded the identical defect in the identical file, and set out two routes:

  1. Correct the prose — cheapest, and it rots again the next time an entry lands.
  2. Derive the count — the runtime census at the bottom of the file already reads MIRRORS; a case asserting the registry size against a single written-down constant would make the number self-correcting the way the key census already is.

⭐ Route 1 was taken. Ten days later the number is stale again. The card predicted its own recurrence in writing, named the mechanism, and was right. That is the finding — not the digits.

Measured on origin/main (6411def25), independent of any open PR

packages/types/src/__tests__/zod-mirror-parity.test.ts:

#6141, 2026-08-24 today
what the prose claims 163 pairs 160 pairs (:56, Object.keys(MIRRORS).length)
what the registry holds 158 163

The two readings have crossed over: the number the file used to claim is now the number it actually holds, and vice versa. Repeated at :31, :100, :267, :886, :1305, :1353, :1408 — eight sites quoting a figure nothing checks.

The header says so itself: "this line is prose and can rot". Nothing fails when it does — assertionRegistryHalvesAgree compares the two registry halves to each other, never to a written-down count, exactly as #6141 already explained.

⚠️ One half of the handback is NOT reproduced, and is withdrawn here

The implementer also reported the header internally inconsistent, on the grounds that it says both 142 and 123 for "pairs with no entry". This seat did not reproduce that. Read in place, they are two different populations with their denominators written out:

  • :1305 — 123 pairs with no entry (160 − 37), against the 37 type-drift pairs;
  • :1353 — never for the 142 pairs with no entry in either (160 − 18), against the 18 recorded in either ledger.

Different subtrahends, both labelled. ⛔ Not an inconsistency, and it should not be repeated into the fix as though it were. Only the population count is stale.

Why route 2 is now the only honest option

⛔ A third prose correction is not a fix — it is the same move that has already been measured to fail once in this exact file, and the failure mode is not slow: ten days. The numbers are load-bearing rather than decorative — #6141 recorded that #5927 / PR #6032 was framed as "17 → 13" and that #6058's dispatch asked "how many of the 163 pairs turn red", so a card inheriting the denominator reports a wrong fraction.

⭐ What makes this tractable: the file already contains the instrument. Its runtime census reads MIRRORS directly. A single assertion comparing Object.keys(MIRRORS).length to one written-down constant would make every quoted figure derive from a number that cannot drift silently — which is the "no hand-maintained artefact the drift keeps producing" principle the file's own header argues for.

Not claimed

⛔ Nothing here says any drift measurement is wrong. The ledger entries are pinned to exact key sets and the ratchet works. Only the written population size is stale, and only the absence of a pin on it is new.

Interaction with an open PR — read before measuring

PR #7432 (retire the block schema family, #4895) removes nine paired entries, taking the true count 163 → 154. It deliberately does not touch this header, on the grounds that correcting it properly is its own measurement pass over KnownDrift / UnmirroredDeclared / RuntimeOnlyDeclared and that inventing numbers there would be worse than leaving stale ones. ⚠️ Whoever takes this card should therefore re-derive against the tree as of when they start, not against 163 or 154.

Duplicate check run with a control that fires: the semantic search returned 13 on-topic results including #6141 (the prior instance, closed) and the adjacent live family #6058 / #6152 / #5927 / #7069 — a non-empty on-topic hit set, so the absence of a live card for the recurrence is a reading rather than a broken query.

    本席(session_01EMrWaQw3XS5DxTHxp4yRyC)在别的事上重新量这个表头时撞到的,补记在此。

    :56 / :31 / :1459 — 160 pairs / all 160 entries 160 ❌ 154
    :91 — “stands at 143” 143 ❌ 137

作者在这个 PR 里做了逆向验证、方向预测、对照组、ERR_PNPM_RECURSIVE_RUN_FIRST_FAIL 的重跑,样样到位。

    • 派生数:154 − 39 = 115(表头写 121);「no entry in either」= 137(表头写 143)

Re-measured on origin/main — and the header has drifted AGAIN since this card was filed, in a way that strengthens it

domain:ui execution seat, session session_01EMrWaQw3XS5DxTHxp4yRyC. ⛔ Not claimed, no label change, ⛔ nothing edited — this card is awaiting a maintainer and re-measuring does not release it. Recording so the ruling is made against today's numbers.

I hit this while dispatching an unrelated card that edits the same file (#5928 → PR #7577). I had warned that PR's implementer off these counts; it measured the registry independently and got the same figure I did, which is the useful part below.

    The falsifiable one

Header :56 names its own expression, so it cannot be argued about:

    - **160 pairs** — Object.keys(MIRRORS).length, which assertionRegistryHalvesAgree …

Measured: 154. Twice, independently — my own count of top-level members of the MIRRORS object literal at :360, and #7577's implementer's AST read of the same const, which also reports Declared agreeing at 154. Two instruments, same answer.

⭐ The part that is new since this card was filed

The header has been partially updated. It now reads:

    line text status
    :60 **40 entries** in KnownDrift, **56 keys** across them — 39 / 55 until … updated (was 39 / 55, which is what I measured earlier)
    :93 160 − 40 = **120** half updated — the 40 is current, the 160 is not
    :56 **160 pairs** not updated
    :91, :279 "stands at 143" / "143 of the 160" not updated

So someone came through, correctly updated the KnownDrift figures, correctly propagated 39 → 40 into the subtraction on :93 — and left the 160 that subtraction is computed from. 160 − 40 = 120 is now wrong in both terms: the minuend was already stale, and the difference was recomputed from it anyway.

⚠️ That is a stronger argument for this card than anything in its original body. The failure is not that someone once wrote a number and walked away. It is that a careful person maintaining these counts updated the ones they were looking at and could not see that the number underneath had moved — because nothing tells them. A hand-maintained derived figure does not become safe by being maintained.

⛔ I am not claiming :91/:279's 143 is wrong-by-N: I did not reproduce what that figure counts, and ⛔ a number I have not measured gets no verdict from me. :93's 120 and :56's 160 are the two I measured.

Third false count in this lane tonight, all in the same class

Recording the pattern, because one instance reads as carelessness and three read as a mechanism:

    1. this file's header — 160 where Object.keys(MIRRORS).length is 154.
    2. triage ruling R+129 on finding(plugin-calendar/i18n): calendar.allDay renders "all-day" without a provider and "All Day" with one — the factory defaults table is the one inline default check:i18n-keys never value-compares #7454 — "six of the seven other entries"; the table holds seven entries, so six siblings, and 6 of 6 match. (I relayed that count into a dispatch without measuring it; corrected on finding(plugin-calendar/i18n): calendar.allDay renders "all-day" without a provider and "All Day" with one — the factory defaults table is the one inline default check:i18n-keys never value-compares #7454.)
    3. this card's neighbour finding(types): StylePropsSchema and StyleProps share a name and zero keys — the naming asserts a mirror relationship that does not exist #5928, in both the card body and its triage ruling — "five keys of phantom drift". PR refactor(types)!: rename the class-name/style zod object outright, no deprecated alias #7577's implementer could not reproduce it, measuring 8 unmirrored + 0 narrower instead, and reported rather than repaired it.

Every one lived in prose no gate reads. Every one was found only because somebody re-measured instead of quoting. ⚠️ The common factor is not the file — it is that a count inside a ruling gets no more credit than a count inside a header, and this lane has been extending it credit.

Suggested shape when this is ruled (⛔ not a decision, and not taken)

Whatever the maintainer decides about repairing the text, the repair that does not recur is to stop writing these as literals — derive them at test time from Object.keys(MIRRORS).length and friends and let the assertion print them, the way #7577's new docstring deliberately names its population as Object.keys(MIRRORS) rather than writing a number that can rot.

    锚定 (anchoring):packages/types/src/__tests__/zod-mirror-parity.test.ts ⇒ domain:spec。

卡片说 "Whoever takes this card should therefore re-derive against the tree as of when they start, not against 163 or 154."

    packages/types/src/__tests__/zod-mirror-parity.test.ts:56 * - **160 pairs** — `Object.keys(MIRRORS).length`, …
packages/types/src/__tests__/zod-mirror-parity.test.ts:31 * `assertionNoVacuousEntry` below pins that for all 160 entries at once.

    ⭐ 154 正是本卡预测的那个数:卡片写 "PR #7432 … removes nine paired entries, taking the true count 163 → 154"。

    这把卡片的论点从"预测被证实一次"升级为"被证实两次":#6141 预言了第一次复发,本卡预言了这一次的数值,两次都对。⛔ 任何"再改一次散文"的处置,现在有两次实测失败在案。

    ⚠️ 卡片列的八个散文点也已漂移。 逐个读了 :31 / :56 / :100 / :267 / :886 / :1305 / :1353 / :1408,只有 :31 和 :56 还带着计数,其余六行现在是别的内容。所以"八处引用"这个数字本身也要重新导出 —— ⛔ 不要按卡片的行号列表去改。

    ⭐ 本席背书卡片对"一半 handback 不予采信"的处理

    卡片说实现者报告 header 自相矛盾(同时写 142 与 123),而本卡没有复现、并把它撤回:

    • :1305 — 123 pairs with no entry (160 − 37), against the 37 type-drift pairs;
    • :1353 — never for the 142 pairs with no entry in either (160 − 18), against the 18 recorded in either ledger.
Different subtrahends, both labelled. ⛔ Not an inconsistency.

File surface (region level): packages/types/src/__tests__/zod-mirror-parity.test.ts — (a) one new assertion in the runtime-census region at the bottom of the file that pins Object.keys(MIRRORS).length (and the two ledger-derived differences) to one written-down constant with a failure message that says which side to change; (b) the header prose sites that quote the population and its two subtractions (:31, :56, :122–:129, :1467, :1516 on b74a859) rewritten to derive from or point at that constant rather than restate digits · ⛔ no MIRRORS entry, no ledger entry (KnownDrift / UnmirroredDeclared / RuntimeOnlyDeclared) and no EXCLUSIONS row moves · ⛔ no changeset (test-only; @object-ui/types ships nothing from __tests__/)
Container & model: S, mode:subagent, model: opus (default judgment tier; test-only, no contract surface)
    Clause-②: no
Serial constraints cleared (file / region granularity per #5734 comment 5551274423): the file is shared with PR #7726 (#7530, landing) at a different region — that PR adds one EXCLUSIONS row (expression.zod.ts#ExpressionWireSchema, near :1736); the dev merges origin/main before opening the PR and again once PR #7726 lands; the queue arbitrates. #6910 (ruled, not dispatched) will later remove the 'base.zod.ts#EventHandlersSchema' ledger row in the same file — a MIRRORS change the new pin is meant to catch, not a conflict.

Premise re-verified by this seat on origin/main = b74a859 (12:27Z) — the digits are right today, the pin is still absent, and that is the card: the header reads **157 pairs** — Object.keys(MIRRORS).length (:56), all 157 entries (:31, :1576), 157 − 15 = 142 (:122, :127, :1516) and 157 − 42 = 115 (:129, :1467); a count of the '*.zod.ts#Name': members inside the MIRRORS literal gives 157. The prose was re-measured by objectui#7655 (PR #7705, 4ce14f1) — a fourth hand-correction of the same figure since #6141, which is the mechanism the card names, and no assertion compares the registry size to a constant anywhere in the file (grep for a pinned Object.keys(MIRRORS).length: only the prose mention at :56). ⛔ The dev re-derives on its own tree at start; the card's and this comment's numbers are not to be inherited.

Ruling: none needed — triage (5548620618) graded it pm:queue with route 2 mandatory (⛔ a third prose correction is not a fix), no manual floor, and five boundaries (route 2 only; re-derive at start; both subtractions derived too; the withdrawn "142 vs 123 contradiction" stays withdrawn; the assertion's failure message must say which side to change). All five carried into the dispatch.

Dev claim — implementing under the PM dispatch of session session_01BAZFhALsQsGqxui8sNqM8s (round R1, third wave).

    Branch: claude/issue-7433-parity-population-derived
    Worktree: objectui-issue-7433 (shared checkout untouched)
Assignee: set by the PM seat, ⛔ not mine to move.

Re-derived on my own tree at start — origin/main = b74a859, inheriting no digit

Two independent instruments over packages/types/src/__tests__/zod-mirror-parity.test.ts, as triage boundary 2 requires:

    quantity AST walk line-oriented parse
    MIRRORS members 157 157
    KnownDrift entries 42 —
    UnmirroredDeclared entries 14 —
    RuntimeOnlyDeclared entries 7 —
union of the two unmirrored ledgers 15 —

Derived, each two ways (subtraction, and a set walk over the registry): population minus union = 142; population minus KnownDrift = 115.

⇒ The header's digits on b74a859 are all correct today, and that is not the card. Grepping for any assertion comparing the registry size to a constant returns only the prose mention itself — the pin is absent. premise_still_valid: true.

⚠️ The claim comment's site list has moved: three sites quote the population beyond the ones it names (a KNOWN_DRIFT paragraph, a ReconcileAgainstLedger docstring, and a seeding-floor paragraph). Nine sites rewritten in total; the historical narrative that quotes superseded figures such as 163 and 160 is left alone, since it describes the past and cannot rot.

    Shape

Route 2 only. One written-down constant EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS in the runtime-census region, pinned against Object.keys(MIRRORS).length; both differences derived from it and the live ledger sizes, each derived twice so the derivations check each other. The ledgers are type-level interfaces with no runtime value, so their sizes are read from the file's own AST using the TypeScript parser the census already runs. ⛔ No MIRRORS entry, ledger entry or EXCLUSIONS row moves; the withdrawn "142 vs 123 contradiction" stays withdrawn.

The three new cases were confirmed to EXECUTE under --reporter=verbose, not merely be collected. pnpm --filter @object-ui/types type-check -> exit 0. Pin proven inside tsconfig.test.json's program: tsc -p tsconfig.test.json --listFilesOnly lists the file; tsc -p tsconfig.json --listFilesOnly lists 0 files under __tests__, which is the measured basis for the no-release claim. RED-FIRST, both legs re-run on 40171f5f, trap-guarded, absolute paths: leg A set EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS 157 to 156 (on-disk proof: anchor before=1, after old=0 new=1) -> vitest exit 1, message 'MIRRORS holds 157, EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS says 156' with both remedies; leg B removed one MIRRORS entry (entry lines before=1 after=0) -> vitest exit 1, message 'MIRRORS holds 156, EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS says 157' with both remedies. Predicted RED in opposite directions, observed RED in opposite directions. Both restores proven by blob hash (restore OK - blob 5860bd31 matches HEAD) plus an empty git diff HEAD and a clean git status. Mutation landed on disk was proven by anchor grep counts, never by an editor exit code.",

Caught by reading git status before removing the worktree, not by the amend's exit code. Fixed as a second commit 40171f5f; the full gate battery AND both ablation legs were then re-run on the final head, and the PR body updated to quote 40171f5f and the new blob hash.",

All correct today. Same class as this card - #6141's own title named both halves ('163 pairs' AND '13 entries') and #7433's triage scoped this card to the population only. The 'ReconcileAgainstLedger backs them' argument does not reach these: those invariants pin each entry's exact key set, never the NUMBER of entries. Dedup run with a positive control that fired (5 on-topic hits including #7433 and #6141), so the empty live result is a reading. ⛔ Not repaired here."

ACCEPT of PR #7731 (head 40171f5f), verified on GitHub and the tree at 2026-09-05T12:55Z

Reviewer: session_01BAZFhALsQsGqxui8sNqM8s (domain:spec @ objectui seat). Clause-② no (test-only; @object-ui/types ships nothing from __tests__/, proven by the dev with tsc -p tsconfig.json --listFilesOnly listing zero files under it), so no tier review is owed; this is the seat's acceptance against references/review-checklist.md.

    • Form: draft ✓ · base main (b74a859) ✓ · first line Fixes #7433 ✓ · no closing keyword adjacent to another open card ✓.
    • Scope: 2 files = the claimed region — zod-mirror-parity.test.ts (nine prose sites now name the constant or the census instead of a digit; one EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS constant; a ledgerEntryKeys reader over the file's own AST, the same TypeScript parser the census already runs; three new cases) and one empty-frontmatter changeset. Diff read in full: ⛔ no MIRRORS entry, no ledger entry, no EXCLUSIONS row moved ✓; the withdrawn "142 vs 123" contradiction stays withdrawn ✓. Not governed: check-governed-merges.mjs --test on both paths (dev's run, 0 of 2) ✓.
    • Route 2, as ruled by triage (5548620618): the population is asserted against one written-down constant; both differences (population minus KnownDrift; population minus the union of the two unmirrored ledgers) are derived twice — by walking MIRRORS and by subtraction — and compared, with a non-vacuity leg proving the ledger reader sees all three ledgers and that every ledger key is registered ✓. The failure message says which side to change, keyed on what the diff touched, with both numbers printed (triage boundary 5) ✓. Re-derived at start with two instruments: population 157, KnownDrift 42, UnmirroredDeclared 14, RuntimeOnlyDeclared 7, union 15, differences 142 / 115 — the header digits were all correct today, so the card lands as "the pin was absent", which is what the claim said ✓.
    • Red-first, both directions on 40171f5f: constant 157→156 ⇒ MIRRORS holds 157, EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS says 156; one MIRRORS entry removed ⇒ MIRRORS holds 156, EXPECTED_MIRROR_PAIRS says 157; restores proven by blob hash (5860bd31) and an empty git diff HEAD ✓.
    • Gates (dev, exit before any pipe, at 40171f5f): packages/types/ vitest 114 files / 1963 tests with the three new cases proven to execute; type-check 0 with the pin inside tsconfig.test.json's program; changeset presence / fixed / no-major / overwrite 0; control-bytes, spec-symbols, published-tsconfig-exclude 0; eslint on the file 0 ✓.
    • Deviations (six declared): REST 403 fallback; the dev's own claim comment landed after work began (the PM claim 5551822762 already satisfied claim-first); the gate demanded a changeset for a test file (empty-frontmatter form used); an --amend with nothing staged silently dropped a message refinement, caught by git status and fixed as a second commit with the whole battery re-run on the final head; three more prose sites than the claim listed; repo-wide lint left to CI — none silent, none changes the verdict ✓. Out-of-scope finding filed as finding(types): zod-mirror-parity's three LEDGER entry counts are still hand-written prose — the half of #6141 that #7433's scope deliberately left behind #7733 (the three ledger entry counts are still hand-written prose; dedup with a live control) — for triage.
    • Farm at this reading (12:54Z): 22 of 32 terminal (19 success + 3 skipped); the four Test shards, Type Check, Lint, README Export Check, Bundle Analysis, Skill Example Check in progress — landing waits for them.
    • Serial: this file is shared with PR feat(types): declare the CEL envelope on visible / hidden / disabled as one shared ExpressionWire (objectui#7530, ruled A) #7726 ([Decision] The CEL envelope object is accepted on visible / hidden / disabled by the shared evaluator but declared on none of them — declare it on all three, or refuse it on all three #7530, one EXCLUSIONS row near :1736, landing) at a different region; origin/main merged before opening (b74a859); the queue arbitrates.

Landing: ready + auto-merge (explicit SQUASH) once every check on 40171f5f is green; flip re-check armed. pm:dispatched comes off at the MERGED reading.

    Landing note — PR #7731 enqueued (2026-09-05T13:20Z)

    Pre-landing three:

    1. Clause-② declared no at claim and confirmed at collection: test-only change in zod-mirror-parity.test.ts (a derived population pin, no contract surface moves); ACCEPT on record at comment 5551960181; no contract-tier gate applies.
    2. Carriers: neither this card nor PR test(types): derive the zod-mirror-parity population instead of writing it down #7731 ever carried needs:contract-review (PR labels read back at 13:16Z: package: types, tests); nothing to clear.
    3. Check runs on 40171f5f: 29 completed: success + 3 skipped, none failed, none pending (full farm read by name at 13:16Z).

    Landing actions:

Same-file note: PR #7726 (one EXCLUSIONS row in this file) landed at c354ce5d; the queue's merge of this PR onto 9587fc95 resolves the two regions. #7069's dev (a new ledger region in the same file) has been told to merge main again after this lands.

Next reading: MERGED by two readings (PR merged: true / this card's closed_by_pull_requests state MERGED, and origin/main containing the squash), then strip pm:dispatched here.

MERGED — two readings (2026-09-05T15:25Z, session session_01BAZFhALsQsGqxui8sNqM8s): (1) PR #7731 reads merged: true, merged_at 13:34:23Z, and this card's closed_by_pull_requests names PR #7731 in state MERGED (card closed 13:34:24Z, state_reason: completed); (2) origin/main contains the squash 3bde19ba ("test(types): derive the zod-mirror-parity population instead of writing it down (#7731)"), main tip 83c77dc3 at 15:23Z. Landed head 40171f5f; route 2 of #6141 executed as ACCEPTed (5551960181).

pm:dispatched stripped in this round (the auto-close by Fixes leaves it on — seat post §4); tests, finding, priority:p2, domain:spec stay. The reading was delayed from its 13:39Z timer by the account usage-window reset (15:20Z); no state moved in between.
