Motivation for this change

The aim of this PR is to start pushing some of the generalizations needed for the formalization of the Bochner integral by @Brixfoly.
These are minimal generalizations on the definitions of simple functions for now.

Merge policy

As a rule of thumb:

  • PRs with several commits that make sense individually and that
    all compile are preferentially merged into master.
  • PRs with disorganized commits are very likely to be squash-rebased.
