This is an adapter/riser for 40 pin DIP CPU sockets.
design is a set of two risers with breakaway tabs
smaller board has edge contacts for mounting leadframe pins. 40 header pins link lower board to upper board, which hosts a standard 40p socket, typically round pin
This combination achieves two main goals:
- allow round pin feature boards to plug into legacy sockets. Legacy sockets frequently do not work correctly with round pins. The leadframe pins are flat and securely fasten into the legacy sockets.
- Elevates the feature board above surrounding components.
