Replaces the paper's conference deck with an interactive Next.js / React slideshow under paper/slides/presentation/, built on the PolicyEngine slideshow template (Tailwind v4, KaTeX). Built for IMA World Congress 2026, Brussels — Parallel Session 4A (Tax Analysis).

What's here

  • paper/slides/presentation/ — the deck app. Run locally with npm install && npm run dev; export to PDF with npm run export:pdf (Playwright screenshots each slide).
  • Deck defined in slides/config.ts (order + metadata) and slides/vat-ima-2026.tsx (the slides); figures in public/figures/.
  • The previous beamer deck (slides.tex / slides.pdf) has been removed in favour of this.

The deck

  • 30 slides in paper-section order: cover → motivation (ONS/HMRC/OBR figures) → data & calibration → static costing → the notch's dominated region → behavioural layer → conclusion (findings + limitations / future work), a QR thank-you, and four appendix slides.
  • PolicyEngine branding: teal→dark gradient cover/close, white footer with a centered caption, KaTeX math, speaker headshot on the cover.
  • Navigation: arrow keys / click / fullscreen (f); clickable "→ appendix" and "← back" jump links; page counter that excludes the appendix.

Content fidelity

All numbers from the paper: £17,000 notch, £85k→£90k anchor (£175m vs HMRC £185m), reform menu (−£508m / −£336m / −£343m / −£171m), dominated region a = £21,250, bunching b = 0.060 / E = 8,712 with the placebo collapse, behavioural e-sweep {0.05, 0.17, 0.32}. The formulation-A optima figure's legend was moved to a frameless bottom legend at source and the figure regenerated.

A 29-frame beamer (metropolis) talk adapting the Chicago template to the
main-branch VAT microsimulation paper:

- PolicyEngine branding: light-teal header banner + deep-teal text matching the
poster, official transparent PE mark in every header corner, centered title
slide with the teal wordmark, light-teal section dividers with a slim
  step-progress bar.
- Paper-section order: motivation (ONS/HMRC/OBR figures) -> data & calibration
  -> static costing -> bunching/dominated region -> behavioural -> conclusion,
plus appendix backup slides with working hyperlink nav buttons.
- Key equations on the data, bunching, dominated-region and behavioural slides.
- Math-safe \pounds everywhere (no stray dollar signs); self-contained
author-year citations; figures under Figures/, logos under logo/.
- Closing slide with QR to the project site and contact icons.

Sync onto the new main (PRs #19, #20 merged) and reflect Section 7's value-added
recast of the behavioural simulator.

- New slide "The firm's problem: VAT on value added (formulation A)":
  pi(y)=(1-delta)(1-tau f(y))y - C(y;n,e), with delta the deductible-input share
(value added (1-delta)y), C the own-factor cost (inputs already netted, so
reading C as total cost would double-count), optimum n[(1-delta)(1-tau)]^e, and
the new formulation_a_optima figure (delta in {0,0.4,0.8} across notch and taper).
- Behavioural slide: note the simulator is a value-added base (formulation A).
The e-sensitivity numbers (GBP508m->GBP292m, etc.) are unchanged.
- Limitations: the "turnover-tax approximation" bullet now states the simulator
taxes value added with a parametric delta (ONS Supply-Use to come), still
  abstracting from voluntary registration.

Rebuilt slides.pdf (30 pages).

Port the VAT firm-microsimulation talk to the PolicyEngine Next.js/React
slideshow template under paper/slides/presentation/ — 30 slides (cover, six
sections, content, thank-you with QR, four appendix), KaTeX math, clickable
appendix jump/back links, PDF export. Move the formulation-A optima legend to a
frameless bottom legend and regenerate the figure across paper/ and the decks.

Delete paper/slides/slides.tex, slides.pdf and the vendored Figures/logo now
that the Next.js deck under paper/slides/presentation/ is the deck.
