Using Latex within Quarto

How can I use Latex code within Quarto? I mean in a similar way to Rmarkdown.

You can insert math into a Quarto document using dollar signs, just like in R Markdown!

$$
x^2
$$

To add in-line math, just use single dollar signs instead of double. For example, $x^2$.

What about writing tables. like in

\begin{table}

You can include raw LaTeX in your PDF documents, but raw LaTeX will be ignored when rendered to HTML or Word. For including tables, you probably want to use Markdown tables.

If you want to write your tables using LaTeX, you could always convert the LaTeX table to Markdown if you're trying to render to something other than PDF!

It is possible to use Latex within quarto to create .pdf files. Can we do the same to create .html files? I'm particularly interested in the creation of nice tables using latex packages like threeparttable.

Aside from math, no. LaTeX directives are ignored for HTML and other non-PDF output types.

If you are trying to get LaTeX to work for other format, you'll have to implement something on your side like a Quarto extension.
See Typst Render wich does this.
Unfortunately, that's going to be less easier with LaTeX.

It seemed like a relevant place to put it, sorry. I have checked the documentation. I was curious if \(x^{2}\) would (ever) work rather than $x^{2}$. This was marked unanswered and it felt like a relevant place for a small aside.

I guess ...{=latex} it is.

You don't need raw block in equation mode.
It's needed only for plain text.

To use \[ and \(, you can enable this from Pandoc by adding the following in your YAML: from: markdown+tex_math_single_backslash
