.venv can't be resolved as default interpreter path, only venv can

Type: Bug

Already included interpreter path and its valid, but keeps saying invalid python interpreter path.
It also keeps resolving to venv instead of .venv for some reason

Behaviour

Python extension keeps complaining that "An invalid Python interpreter is selected"

Steps to reproduce:

1. fresh venv called .venv

python -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate && poetry sync

2. Ran Python: Clear Workspace Interpreter Setting
3. Set my .vscode/settings.json with:

"python.defaultInterpreterPath": "${workspaceFolder}/.venv/bin/python",

4. Ran Developer: Reload Window
5. Still complains "An invalid Python interpreter is selected"

symlinking it (ln -s .venv venv) makes it work because it keeps trying to scan for venv, but it doesn't scan .venv. how do I fix this without the symlink?

No, I don't have a perfmgmt/venv. The interpreter I select from is perfmgmt/.venv

Yes I do when I select perfmgmt/.venv in the command palette, but I need to keep specifying the interpreter every time the project opens.

Note https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/variables-reference#_variables-scoped-per-workspace-folder is currently only supported in tasks.json or launch.json (used while debugging), the use for it in settings.json is discouraged.

Supporting such system variables in settings.json were being a problem for LSP which is probably why they aren't supported by VSCode, IIRC. I'll see if I can find any links.
