They come for the code and they stay for the cause,
a stranger in Nairobi, one more in Cluj,
they open a PR at half-past midnight
and fix what was broken for everyone else. 🌍
No paycheck, no deadline, just a
git cloneaway,a README that whispers "contributions welcome,"
and someone who types: "this changed my whole day" —
the maintainer smiles at a screen in the dark.
They argue in issues with surgical care,
debate a semicolon like it carries some weight,
then merge with a comment: "thanks, great work — take care" —
and the internet quietly becomes less broken. ✨
So here's to the humans behind the green squares,
the fixers, the typo-correctors, the bold,
who license their labor with love set to MIT —
open-source: the oldest gift nobody sold. 🫶
Inspired by the quiet magic of maintainers who answer issues on a Thursday night, for free, out of pure love for the craft.
