Describe the bug

I upgraded to 1.0.76 and I started to get those messages almost immediately in response to any command. It started earlier when I tried to use pre-release 1.0.76-2.

Affected version

GitHub Copilot CLI 1.0.76.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

$ copilot

/model auto (for example)

try any prompt

Expected behavior

I expect prompts working and no error message of the subject kind shown.

Why was this issue completed? Docker sbx users are reporting it as well, but I don't suspect this to be related to sbx, but rather to the Linux packages being broken?

Kevin, in our particular usage case it's plain vanilla usage straight on the physical machine.

I suspect that we would have noticed deluge of messages under processes other than copilot, but I have to confess that I haven't checked directly.

Had the same symptoms. Caused by my timezone environment variable, not the Copilot version.

I had:

TZ=:/etc/localtime

Changing it to a valid IANA timezone fixed /model:

export TZ=Etc/UTC

For a permanent fix, update the TZ value in /etc/environment, then start a new shell/session.

It appears Copilot's JavaScript timezone lookup returns undefined for the colon-prefixed zonefile format, which then fails conversion to a Rust String.

Thanks, Komlan! I have plain vanilla TZ=/etc/localtime sans fancy colons. This comes from our standard system NCBI environment.

I think Copilot should be able to handle TZ environment. BTW that probably explains why the time of the day is off in the TUI clock.
