I can reproduce this on an iPhone 8 Emulator and iPhone 7 and in Safari in Responsive mode for iPhone 8.

@garygrossgarten I think the gap appears because on those devices because the display width is odd (375px). On other devices such as iPhone 8 Plus display width 414px (even) is no gap.

Do you have an idea on how to avoid this gap?

Gap appears also on android devices.
