Gnome-Shell is freezing every 10 seconds due to high CPU spikes

What is the unexpected behavior?

Vitals is creating a abnormal cpu usage that freezes the system for 1 sec every 10 seconds.
If you disable vitals and reboot the system, the freezes disappear...

Steps to reproduce the unexpected behavior.

1.- using vitals 74 on gnome ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
2.- see on monitor hight cpu usage (60-70%) every 10 seconds
3.- disable and reboot
4.- everything ok

+1 Happens to me too on 74. I had to disable the extension and restart my pc for this to go away.

I have a pending upload waiting to be approved which removes this feature for now. Gnome team is backed up in their review process.

The new version was just approved! Unfortunately this removes the history graph, I will bring it back if enough people want it.

@e-chus man how did you figure out that this was caused by Vitals? I was losing my mind trying to troubleshoot this. I thought it was my Nvidia drivers.

I too was going crazy about momentary hangs/freezes on my system the last few days. Had to spin up a Claude Code session without any permissions (well, with approvals) and it took it like half an hours of looking into all sorts of logs, eventually telling me the issue seemed to be Vitals. Disabling the extension indeed fixed the things. I also observed the freezes were mostly gone if I disabled the network usage info from the top bar.

I apologize to everyone who had issues. No doubt it was frustrating. To be honest, I vibe coded the history feature. I guess it is a reminder to triple check the work AI does. @glazari1 submitted a fix, but I decided to revert the feature for now. If there is enough demand I can bring it back, but I also feel like it defeats the efficiency that Vitals otherwise offers.
