[BUG] Winget COM API can NOT detect the right version for installed packages

Please confirm these before moving forward

• I have searched for my issue and have not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
• I have tested that this issue has not been fixed in the latest (beta or stable) release.
• I have checked the FAQ section for solutions.

Describe your issue

When using the default settings for Winget that uses Native WinGet helper (COM Api), the current version of a package previously updated by UnigetUi is not updated in UnigetUi.

Steps to reproduce the issue

• Install JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh
• Wait for the first update and install it
• The package is updated to the last version
• Reload software updates or check installed version in Installed Packages
• It detects JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh is still in the previous version and needs update

Same goes for other WinGet packages.

Relevant information

When I set package managers > WinGet > Advanced options > WinGet COM API > disabled, WinGet is not listed as source in Installed Package. Even after restarting UnigetUi. But selecting Pinget as default CLI tool fixes this and fixes the main issue reported here. Pinget detects the right installed version. It is also more reliable to find updates not previously found with the default settings.

When using package managers > WinGet > Advanced options > reset, it fixes the issue only once. But as soon a new update is successfully installed, the new package version is not updated again.

Another instance of this, with a package where the version mismatch is structural rather than post-update, so it reproduces on a clean install of the package without it ever having been upgraded through UniGetUI.

Environment: UniGetUI 2026.2.5, Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26200.8894 x64, WinGet v1.29.280, default WinGet backend (no WinGet-related override file in my Configuration folder). UI locale is Italian, so the log lines below are Italian; translations follow.

The last two WinGet lines mean "No available upgrade found." and "No newer package versions are available from the configured sources."

WinGet does not agree with the installed version UniGetUI reports:

The uninstall key on this machine matches the manifest exactly:

So WinGet correlates the ARP entry to package version 2025.0.1 and correctly offers nothing. UniGetUI reports 20.25.0 as installed, which is the raw DisplayVersion, and offers 2025.0.1. 20.25.0 and 2025.0.1 are not two points on one version line; they are the ARP version and the manifest package version of the same build, so comparing them is meaningless. Note that the update operation itself runs through the WinGet CLI, which is why the CLI's own verdict ends up in the log while the update entry keeps being generated.

Repro, no prior upgrade needed:

1. winget install --id Hugin.Hugin --exact --source winget
2. Restart UniGetUI and open Software Updates.
3. Hugin appears as 20.25.0 -> 2025.0.1.

Any package whose manifest declares a DisplayVersion different from its PackageVersion is a permanent phantom update under this code path, which makes it easy to unit test. Microsoft.msmpi in #5105 has the same signature: the reporter's output there shows winget upgrade --id Microsoft.msmpi returning "No available upgrade found" while UniGetUI kept offering the update, and it was triaged as a WinGet or manifest problem.

Two notes on the existing mitigations:

• WinGetAlreadyUpgradedPackages.json on this machine contains "Hugin.Hugin": "2025.0.1".
• The loop breaker in Fix WinGet update loop for packages whose upgrade never sticks #5167 would hide the entry after three attempts, but the version shown in Installed Packages stays wrong, and the user pays three elevated installs to get there.

Reading the upgrade availability from WinGet for the installed package, instead of comparing the reported installed version against the manifest PackageVersion, would cover this whole class of package. Ignoring the version in UniGetUI works as a workaround in the meantime.
