Does SearchPluPlus run on Windows 7?

I get "Undetermined error processing this regular expression" for any regex with the Regex button and no response at all with the ICU button. Plain searches work.

I'm running n++ x86 on Wondows 7 x64. I see these dlls loaded with n++

icudt78.dll
icuin78.dll
icuuc78.dll

but not these

icuio78.dll
icutu78.dll

Thank you for the report.

I do have a machine running Windows 7, and using x64 Notepad++ with Search++ I’m getting the same results with Regex and a hard crash with ICU.

I haven’t been able to find a definitive statement, but it appears that the pre-built DLLs for ICU4C 78.x don’t work on Windows 7. Both the Regex search and the ICU search depend on them.

I will investigate further, but if the current version of ICU4C doesn’t work on Windows 7, I won’t be able to fix this.

I am sorry it has taken so long to address this issue. Though I am not certain, it is possible that version 0.6.5 will fix this problem and work with all features on Windows 7.

When I tried it on my Windows 7 machine it worked, while previous versions did not.

(There are some visual anomalies when I run it Windows 7: the symbols on the command buttons do not let the gradient background show through properly. If it seems that this generally works on Windows 7 and later, I will see if I can fix the graphics.)

If you are still interested, let me know if this works for you. In any case, thank you for the original report, and thanks in advance if you are willing and able to test again.

Off topic: The only thing I miss from another search plugin is the ability to change the Mark Style before each Mark from a button on the main dialog rather than Tools->Settings->Mark Style.

Does this increase the probability of porting your ICU use in to Columns++ ?

I will keep that in mind. There are certainly things about the user interface I don’t like. Some redesign will probably happen before this becomes a “1.0” release. The trouble, of course, is that everything added to the UI makes it more complicated, and more daunting when users first look at it. So I’m struggling with how to expose as much functionality as possible without having it be confusing or visually overwhelming. Thank you for the note. Nothing is final yet, so every bit of information about how people want to use this helps.

To some extent, yes. At this point, I don’t plan to change the user interface of the search in Columns++. If for no other reason, for simplicity of maintenance, I would like to have the regular expression engine in Columns++ and Search++ be the same. There shouldn’t be much visible difference between the two now, but the ICU-dependent version in Search++ does get a few Unicode details right that I failed to capture correctly in Columns++. I don’t expect to make any changes to Columns++, aside from outright bugs I might find, until Search++ reaches “production” status (1.0).

If you’re talking about the separate “ICU” search button in the user interface, I’m nearly certain I will not port that. I really only included it for testing purposes, to check that the way I’m using ICU in the main regular expression engine (a customized version of Boost.regex) gets the same results.
